UST shocks FEU after surviving late scare

UST celebrated their shocking win over FEU like a title triumph.

MANILA -- Season hosts UST completed an shocking upset of FEU to start their UAAP season in stunning fashion, eking out a 2-1 win Saturday evening at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.


Showing their own "Puso, Pride and Palaban", UST gaffer Aging Rubio and her ladies zoomed ahead in the second half, firing in two goals in the space of four minutes, before surviving a late fightback from the Lady Tamaraws in the final fifteen minutes of the match to grab the league lead by virtue of more goals scored over Ateneo who upset reigning queens UP in the opening match.

Hazel Lustan scored the Tigresses' first in the 56th minute, poking the ball from a feed from Jan Cleofe past Kim Pariña from inside the box, and turned provider at the hour mark for Cherisa Lemoran, whose long ball zoomed past two FEU defenders and the W-League's top scoerer made no mistake to double UST's advantage.

Jovelle Sudaria pulled one back in the 77th minute but Nicole Reyes made the final say of the match by saving the former's penalty right at the stroke of full time, sending the Yellow Jackets and some Thomasian faithfuls into joyous frenzy.
