MANILA--With Paul Lee still nursing a knee injury that virtually forced him to relinquish his spot in the Gilas pool to Allein Maliksi, the other Star guards had to step up.
Mark Barroca responded with a bang.
Barroca gave the Hotshots a needed boost off the bench in their rout of the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Wednesday night while providing as well his court generalship in yet another blowout, this time against the GlobalPort Batang Pier three nights later.
Barroca's impressive performance this past week earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award as announced on Monday.
Barroca scorched for 17 points in 23 minutes as a bench player against Phoenix.
As a starter against GlobalPort in Tubod, the Mindanao native, who was named to the Mindanao All-Stars on Sunday night, grabbed five rebounds and five assists alongside his eight points and two steals.
The 5-foot-10 guard was given the citation over fellow Hotshot PJ Simon, Meralco Bolts Baser Amer and Jared Dillinger, Rain Or Shine Elasto Painter Maverick Ahanmisi, Mahindra Floodbuster Ryan Arana, Alaska Ace Carl Cruz, and TNT KaTropa Jayson Castro.
