Malayan rallies late to subdue Durham

MANILA--Malayan furbished a fourth quarter explosion to escape the grit of Durham Crossover, 84-80, in their NBTC National Finals Division 1 clash at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Monday night.

The reigning NCAA champion outscored its Canadian foe, 31-20, in the payoff period to walk away with the win.

Jasper Salenga dropped 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds and two assists, while Rom Junsay added 17 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal for Malayan.

Chew Davis tallied 19 points, 21 caroms, three dimes, and two blocks for Durham.

Rob Ocampo, on the other hand, had a sluggish night, committing 14 of Durham's 28 total errors, although he had two blocks to backstop his nine-point, two-rebound, two-assist, and one-steal performance.

Meanwhile, St. La Salle debuted in Division 2 in style, downing Langatian National High School, 68-46.

Also, St. Robert's International mauled La Finns, 65-38, and St. Jude pummeled Notre Dame of Midsayap, 59-41, to respectfully go 2-0 in the day.
