By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--San Beda began its campaign in the first division of the NBTC National Finals with a flurry, dealing Sacred Heart a 76-59 romping in the nightcap of Day 1 of the four-day tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Monday.

The Red Cubs dealt the fatal blow to the Magis Eagles in the final quarter, limiting them to only nine points to turn a relatively close fight to a rout.

Prince Etrata led San Beda with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal, while Peter Alfaro added 11 points and five rebounds.

Vincent Velasco once again led the way for Sacred Heart, which failed to duplicate its victory over AusPinoy earlier Monday, with 14 points, three rebounds, and one block.

In the final scheduled Division 2 game for the day, Ateneo De Davao pipped St. Benilde International, 62-35, in a battle between opening game winners.
