SAN JUAN—University of Santo Tomas fended off a spirited Adamson squad in the endgame to carve out a 25-12, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19 win and get on the winning track in the first game of Saturday’s UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil-Flying V Centre.

After shockingly dropping the third set, the Tigresses but got its bearings back in the fourth for its sixth win in 10 matches, while at the same time bouncing back from its straight-sets loss to Ateneo last week that snapped its four-game win streak.

Adamson, now losers of 10 straight this season and 17th over-all since last year, showed some signs of life in the third set, even grabbing a 20-16 lead before taking the frame on EJ Laure’s attacking miscue.

The Tigresses then built a 20-8 fourth set lead, and the Lady Falcons went down from there.

Team captain Cherry Rondina fired 18 points on 15 attacks and two service aces to lead the España offensive, while Laure cashed in 14.

Pam Lastimosa and Ria Meneses both accounted for 11 markers.

Jema Galanza paced AdU with 16 markers, and Joy Dacoron had 11.
