UST left it late to pound more misery on UP

UST pound more misery on the reigning UAAP queens, with a last gasp goal by the Tigresses condemned UP on the bottom of the table

MANILA -- UST withstand a barrage of Maroon onslaught before leaving it late to condemn UP to another setback to start the ladies doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Aging Rubio's Tigresses left it late with six minutes left on the clock, with a sole Hazel Lustan strike condemned the defending champions to the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win, while moving up with a tie for second with Ateneo who are playing against leaders La Salle as of presstime.

After an exciting yet goalless first half, UP came close at the restart by showing more urgency that gave the season hosts fits. However, they still weren’t able to produce better fluidity up front as proven in the 71st minute when a golden chance came begging via a Cristina Delos Reyes cross that failed to connect with Maxine Sebastian.

A golden chance was given to UST soon after when defender Cassandra Alleje committed a foul inside her penalty area, but Charisa Lemoran made a howler from twelve yards as it sailed wide past the left post.

With the match seemingly poised to end in a goalless draw, a breakthrough came in the 84th minute from a UST counter-attack play as Lemoran turned provider to Hazel Lustan who coolly guided the ball towards the back of the net.

The Tigresses tied the Lady Eagles at six points and will have a chance of going up to second depending on the result of the other match.
