Ginebra heats up in third to keep NLEX winless, stretches win streak to three

By Patrick Sutare

PASAY--Barangay Ginebra banked on a pivotal second half surge to annihilate NLEX, 101-92, Wednesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome, extending their win streak to three while adding up to the woes of the Road Warriors in the PBA Commisioner's Cup.

LA Tenorio and Justin Browlee provided the spark for the Gin Kings in the third quarter, conspiring for 20 points of the team's jaw-dropping 42 in the period.

While they unfurled an offensive juggernaught in said canto, the streaking Kings stifled the Road Warriors on the defensive end as well.

They held the cellar-dwelling squad to just 14 points in the third, turning a 47-48 deficit at halftime to an 89-62 significant upperhand heading to the fourth.

The onslaught sealed the deal for the Barangay that despite the shock troopers being outscored in the fourth, 30-12, the crowd darlings still came out victorious.

Tenorio finished with 13 points, on top of five assists, two rebounds and three steals, while Brownlee uncorked 18 and 13 rebounds.

Japeth Aguilar cashed in 17 markers and five caroms. Joe Devance chipped in 18, 11 of which coming in the first, for Ginebra, which now carries a 3-1 record.

On the other hand, NLEX remained baffled on how to break out of its disastrous slump as the loss stumped them deeper at the bottom of the team standings with a 0-7 record.

Wayne Chism led the Road Warriors with 16  points and eight rebounds. But the effort still was not enough to stop the bleeding of the team.
