QUEZON CITY -- Even though eliminated from the postseason contention last week, National U caused a shocking end to the regular season, toppling titleholders UP on the final match of the UAAP men's football tournament Thursday evening at the Moro Lorenzo field in Ateneo.

Mari Aberasturi's Bulldogs missed out on the Final Four spot for the third season running but it will celebrate it's fifth-place finish in some style after shocking the Fighting Maroons in a drizzling match, 2-1.

Mike Arbela put NU ahead in the 36th minute, before Sebastian Patangan equalized in the 67th minute.

However, Jacob Gomez nabbed the winner for the Bulldogs in the 72nd minute, in which they hold on to end the season on 19 points, three ahead of La Salle as the Sampaloc side opened and closed the season by scoring two goals in those instances.
