MANILA--The PBA handed a hefty sanction on Ronald Tubid after incurring a flagrant foul penalty 2 late in San Miguel's PBA Commissioner's Cup debut against Meralco.
As announced by the league on Tuesday, the six-foot guard is suspended for two games and has to pay a PHP30,000 fine after Commissioner Chito Narvasa assessed Tubid's foul, in which he hit Chris Newsome's head while going for a rebound with 9:12 left in the said game on Sunday night.
The referees initially called it a flagrant foul penalty 1, but as blood began to trickle near Newsome's right eye, they eventually upgraded it to a disqualifying foul.
The said ban virtually gave "The Saint" a prolonged Holy Week break as he will sit out the Beermen's games against the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Friday night and the Star Hotshots on Easter night.
