GlobalPort stuns Meralco in post-trade clash

PASAY—A new-look GlobalPort squad dropped the upset ax on erstwhile league leader Meralco with a 94-86 victory in their PBA Commissioner's Cup meeting at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday night, just four nights after they were involved in a blockbuster four-team trade.

The Batang Pier rallied in the final frame, outscoring the Bolts, 33-21, to steal the victory from them.

Justin Harper sizzled in his PBA debut, dropping 5-of-7 from beyond the arc en route to a 30-point game with nine rebounds and three blocks for GlobalPort, which stayed alive in the playoff race.

Sean Anthony and Bradwyn Guinto, the players GlobalPort got from NLEX in the said swap, added 18 and eight points respectively.

Jonathan Grey, the player Meralco sent to GlobalPort in the trade, only had three markers, although he also had four rebounds, three assists, and one block.

Alex Stepheson came close to a 20-20, making 19 points and 27 boards with three assists and three blocks for Meralco, which fell to third place at 7-2, behind erstwhile San Miguel and Ginebra on winning percentage.

Garvo Lanete, who was shipped to Meralco from NLEX in the trade, did not see action.
