Goh rues Malaysia underestimating Vietnam

By Ivan Saldajeno

QUEZON CITY--Malaysia coach Goh Cheng Huat thought his team will easily manhandle Vietnam on Tuesday night that he gave his usual starters some rest at the start of the game.

It turned out to be a blunder for his part as Vietnam came close to pulling off an upset.

"The worst part is that we underestimated them. We are fortunate that we won," Goh told some reporters after Malaysia still escaped with the 86-85 overtime win.

Choo Wei Hong saved the day for Malaysia with the game-winning jumper and Chun Ting Hong kept Vietnam from stealing the win with the game-saving block.

"This is a very valuable lesson to our team," Goh shared his takeaway from the game.
