Indonesia dismantles Vietnam, takes solo first standing in SEABA'17

By Julian Reyes

MANILA--Indonesia remained unbeaten in its first four games in the 2017 SEABA Championship after crushing Vietnam, 95-52, in the nightcap of the Day Four of the tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Indonesians forced Vietnam to just 20 first half points and continued to clamp down on defense up to the end to solidify their hold on the top spot as the Gilas Pilipinas took a break.

Indonesia got 19 and 18 points from Andakara Dhyaksa and Sandy Kurniawan respectively and compounded it by allowing Vietnam to just 28 percent shooting to assure themselves of a podium finish.

Indonesia will take a rest on Tuesday before taking on lowly Myanmar on Wednesday and the Philippines on Thursday.

Vietnam looked promising when the game kicked off, scoring the first four points while giving the Indonesians some tough shots in the first three minutes.

But that didn't stop Indonesia from pulling away as the 2015 SEABA fourth-placers flipped the script on defense to set up the route.

Diftha Pratama added 12 points for Indonesia while Kevin Sitorus had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to negate Han Trieu's and Ngoc Le's 12 points each for Vietnam.
