By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY—San Miguel needed a huge second half push to upend Blackwater, 124-113, in the penultimate day of the PBA Commissioner's Cup eliminations at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday.

Down 56-72 at the half after conceding 40 Elite points in the second quarter, the Beermen slowly crawled back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to six, 90-96, at the end of the period.

They then outscored their opponents, 34-17, in the final frame to complete the turnaround.

Charles Rhodes dropped 32 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal for SMB, which forced a three-day tie at the top of the standings at 8-2 with sister teams Ginebra and Star, which plays Alaska later Wednesday.

Greg Smith led Blackwater with 21 markers, 22 rebounds, five dimes, and two steals, but he committed 11 turnovers as well.

The Elite bowed out of the mid-season conference at 2-9.
