MANILA--Sister squads San Miguel and Star take on separate opponents as they continue their push for a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals in the penultimate night of the elimination round at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay on Wednesday.

The Beermen take on the also-ran Blackwater Elite in the first game at 4:15 p.m., while the Hotshots battle the Alaska Aces in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

SMB, which has a game at hand, can take the quarterfinal bonus outright if it wins both its last two games. The team goes up against GlobalPort on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

However, for Star, the team needs to beat Alaska or else the club will miss out on the Top 2 finish as per a tabulation of quotients made by Dugout Philippines on Tuesday.

But a win may not still be enough for the Hotshots as they must hope that the Beermen or the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel sputter in their remaining games. The Barangay will face the Mahindra Floodbusters in the final game of the eliminations later Friday.

Meanwhile, Alaska also needs a win that will not just give the team outright quarterfinal qualification but also a chance to escape the twice-to-beat disadvantage pending GlobalPort's performance against SMB.
