MANILA--Lakers president of basketball operations' Magic Johnson started his off-season moves this Wednesday as he dealt sophomore combo guard D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets with center Timofey Mozgov for Brooklyn's former All-Star big man Brook Lopez and their 27th pick, according to a report from Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The move gave the Lakers' enough cap space to acquire a highly-priced free agent this summer as they got rid of Mozgov's contract which he signed last offseason.

The deal also seems to ensure Lonzo Ball's spot in Los Angeles as the Lakers' guard rotation became thinner. They are expected to draft him number two overall on Friday, PHL time.

Russell averaged about 16 points and five assists per game this season.

Meanwhile, the Nets gave up their main man Lopez but not their depth, they acquired two starting players who could help the team in it's goal for a playoff appearance this season.

The NBA Draft will be on Friday at 7 a.m. (Philippine Time).
