MANILA--San Beda bucked an explosion from UP's Ibrahim Quattara to score a 65-56 win in the quarterfinals of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City on Wednesday.
The Red Lions outscored the Fighting Maroons, 15-9, in the first quarter only for the latter to draw to within one, 26-27, at halftime.
San Beda once again toughened up on defense and limited UP to only seven points in the third quarter to go up, 45-33, entering the fourth and held on.
Robert Bolick led San Beda, which will face JRU in the semifinals on Friday, with 17 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and two blocks.
Quattara ended up with 22 points, 25 rebounds, one assist, and three blocks to lead UP, but none of his teammates scored more than six points.
