MANILA--Slovenia lived up to its billing as the second seed overall in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, beating the 18th-ranked Philippines, 21-14, in Nantes early Wednesday (Philippine Time).
Starting the game with five straight points, the Slovenians led from the wire to wire and held off a late rally by the Filipinos to complete a 4-0 sweep in Pool B play.
Meanwhile, the loss placed the Philippines in danger of missing the quarterfinals after falling to 1-2 with a match at hand against El Salvador later Wednesday (Philippine Time).
The Philippines must beat El Salvador and hope that Romania beats France in a low-scoring affair to have a chance to sneak into the quarterfinals.
