SMB ends Phoenix's Commish Cup stint in blowout

MANILA--San Miguel booted Phoenix out of contention in the PBA Commissioner's Cup after a 115-96 blowout in their quarterfinal clash at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Tuesday night.

Armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, the second-seeded Beermen wasted no time in eliminating the seventh-seeded Fuel Masters through a dominant second quarter, where the Beermen outscored the Fuel Masters, 29-16.

Marcio Lassiter exploded for 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals for SMB, which will await the winner of the best-of-three series between Star and Rain Or Shine in the semifinals. Star leads the series, 1-0, with Game 2 slated for Wednesday also at "The Big Dome".

Alex Cabagnot added 20 points on six triples with eight rebounds and six assists, while Chris Ross came close to a triple-double with 11 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds caroms with three steals.

Despite having a quiet night, Charles Rhodes would still come up with his own double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with one assist, four blocks, and one steal.

Jameel McKay had 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal in his final game as Phoenix's foreign reinforcement.
