LOS BAÑOS--A historic third quarter splash was all Tanduay needed to blast Gamboa, 113-71, in their PBA D-League Foundation Cup showdown at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.

The Rhum Masters dropped 53 points in the third quarter, the most by any team in a single period in league history, and limited the Coffee Lovers to only 12 points to turn a 34-37 halftime deficit to an 87-49 lead entering the fourth.

Lester Alvarez and Renz Palma led six Tanduay players with 17 points each and a combined 19 of the team's 34 total assists.

Paul Varilla made all his five shots and finished with 15 points, while Von Tambeling made 13, all in the third period.

“Si Von Tambeling talaga ang spark namin. Di ko siya pinalaro ng first half, pero ang ganda ng pinakita niya para sa amin. Nakita namin yung energy na nawawala noong first half,” said Coach Lawrence Chongson, whose team moved up to 3-1.

Playing for the first time against his former team, Ken Acibar paced Gamboa, which slipped to 1-4, with 16 markers.
