MANILA—Perpetual
leaned on the clutch plays of AJ Coronel and Keith Pido down the stretch as it
nipped Mapua on the road, 63-60, for its first win in the NCAA Season 93 men’s
basketball tournament at the Mapua University gym in Intramuros.
Coronel fired
five straight points in the final two minutes as the Altas turned a three-point
deficit into a 60-56 lead, before Pido picked the pocket of Andoy Estrella with
13.6 seconds left to seal the deal in the second leg of the home-and-away tour.
GJ Ylagan
led the Altas with 13 points despite playing ill, while Prince Eze fashioned
out 21 rebounds and 11 markers.
Coronel
finished with 10 points, missing just two of his six attempts from the field and
grabbed nine rebounds plus two steals in 33 minutes.Daryl
Singontiko also had 10 markers, while Pido churned in nine.
The win
finally pushed the Las Piñas-based ballclub into the win column, just a week
after its maiden victory over College Of St. Benilde was nullified due to
technicalities. They tied its victims at 1-2.
Leo Gabo led
the Cardinals with 12 points, while Estrella and Almel Orquina chalked up 11
and 10, respectively.
