MANILA--Francesca Altomonte hit the game-winning home run as the Philippine Blu Girls ended their stint in the World Cup of Softball with a 4-2 win against Mexico in Oklahoma City on Sunday (Philippine Time).
Altomonte struck the two-run homer at the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-all deadlock and give the Blu Girls the win that snapped a four-game skid eliminated them from playoff contention.
“Their performance in this tournament has proven that they are ready to face the toughest international teams and are continuously improving to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
The Blu Girls' buildup continues in Surrey, Canada for the Canada Cup International Softball Championship starting on Wednesday (Philippine Time).
