Birthday boy Tanton strikes for Makati in road win at Laguna

By Ivan Saldajeno

BIÑAN—Miguel Tanton got a timely explosion right on his birthday as Kaya Makati mauled Stallion Laguna, 3-1, in their PFL second round meeting at the Biñan Football Stadium on Wednesday night.

As the heavy rains turned the match into a wet and wild encounter, Tanton put up a storm of his own, scoring a brace to lift to provisional fourth place.

Laguna, however, got a shining moment early on as Roland Sadia saved a sixth minute penalty attempt from Adam Reed.

Jordan Mintah, however, struck one past Sadia six minutes later as he received a good pass from Marwin Angeles and slotted the ball in to put Makati on the board.

Then, Tanton's free kick barrage happened, starting with a 34th minute strike from just the edge of the penalty box.

Tanton made another free kick, this time a little farther away, in the 67th minute for the 3-0 count.

Ref Cuaresma, who got the start for Makati in place of main goalie Zach Banzon, came close to getting a clean sheet against his former club until Yannick Tuason scored at the death as a consolation for Laguna.

Makati overtook Negros momentarily with 14 points, tying Cebu for third with the latter ahead on goal difference.

Negros and Cebu will play later Wednesday in Cebu City with the winner moving to third place.
