MANILA--Even in a different tournament, the RP Blu Girls continue to shock the softball world.

The 17th ranked Filipina softbelles added the third ranked Canada to their list of giants beaten at the start of their campaign in the Canada Cup International Softball Championship in Surrey, Canada on Wednesday (Philippine Time).

Francesca Altamonte fired a two-run homer in the second inning while Garie Blando added two more RBI's in the third to establish a quick 4-2 lead that the Blu Girls would hold on until the end.

“I'm so elated with this win by our Blu Girls over powerhouse Canada,” said ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier. “The Blu Girls have proven that their wins versus world number 4 Australia and world number 10 Mexico were not a fluke. I've never doubted that softball is the team sport that we can be at par with the world's best. This is a big boost to our bid to qualifying in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.”

The Blu Girls will next face Chinese Taipei on Thursday (Philippine Time).
