MANILA--PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa on Tuesday said that the PBA teams whose some of their players have been called up to the Gilas pool for the FIBA Asia Cup agreed to release them to national team duties.

Nineteen of the 24 players who have been summoned to the Gilas pool come from the top-tier local cagefest led by current skipper Jayson Castro, the comebacking Gabe Norwood, and top rookie pick Mac Belo, who looks to finally move on from the injury bug that sidelined him for the SEABA Championship.

Belo and the rest of the Gilas Cadets, as per an agreement between the PBA and the SBP, are to be released 30 days prior to the start of a tournament, meaning they are basically out for the first fiscal month of the PBA Governors' Cup, which will begin on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Castro, Norwood, and the other Gilas veterans chosen to the pool are to be released 15 days before an international competition, which means that they are to be released by July 24 since the FIBA Asia Cup will begin on Aug. 8.

Regarding the schedule conflict that could arise, Narvasa said that they are currently working on it.

Only the first eight playdates of the Governors' Cup have been announced with Kia battling Phoenix and Alaska taking on NLEX on opening night.
