MANILA—San Beda toyed with
Emilio Aguinaldo College, 81-69, in the first game of NCAA Season 93 men’s seniors
basketball Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
With Jomar Presbitero and Davon Potts finally
finding the rhythm after so-so performances, the defending champs went berserk after
a tighly-fought first half as it led 62-43 at the end of three quarters.
The Generals staged a comeback of sorts
in the fourth to come within 10 points, 62-72, in the last three minutes,
before Javee Mocon fired crucial hits to douse cold water on EAC.
The win is Beda’s second straight and third in four outings, a game and a half behind undefeated Lyceum Pirates (2-0).
Presbitero led three other Lions in double
digits with 16 points on a 70 percent clip from the field. He also issued three
assists and had two steals.
Donald Tankoua scored 12 while
grabbing nine boards. Robert Bolick and Mocon were the other players in twin
digits with 10 apiece.
San Beda will next face bitter rivals
Letran on Tuesday.
Francis Munsayac took charge for EAC
with a game-high 21 points, but suffered a twisted right ankle and was taken out with three
minutes left in the match.
Jerome Garcia went for 16 points for the
Generals, now losers of two straight games after winning its opening match. Cameroonian Hamadou Laminou struggled anew
with just 13 points on 4-of-18 shooting and nine rebounds.
