BIÑAN—The ultimate test for the top four teams in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup rages on.

Flying V, Batangas, Cignal, and Tanduay will be in one pivotal doubleheader on Thursday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig as their respective bids to enter the semifinals outright could either get a boost or hit a roadblock.

Cignal (6-2) takes on Batangas (4-1) at 3 p.m., while Flying V (5-0) and Tanduay (3-1) lock horns at 5 p.m.

With only two games left in its schedule, Cignal looks to end its part in the chase for the top two spots on a high note while hoping that either of Batangas, Flying V, and Tanduay, which all have matches at hand, slips a bit.

“We want to fortify our position sa second place dahil very crucial para sa amin yan,” said Coach Boyet Fernandez.

Batangas, on the other hand, has become the biggest overachiever in the league considering its Aspirants Cup stint, but Coach Eric Gonzales believes the game against Cignal will determine if Batangas is indeed a legit contender.

“Medyo totohanang game na yan kasi halos dinurog nila kami noong preseason,” he recounted. “Real test talaga sa amin yan and hopefully, what we built dito sa eliminations will be helpful para sa amin sa game na iyon.”

Meanwhile, ahead of the nightcap, Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson has already set his sights on putting an end to Flying V's unbeaten run.

“Nothing is sweeter than dealing them their first loss,” he said.
