Ginebra reigns in final Hontiveros homecoming, prolongs Alaska's dry spell

MANILA--Alaska let the jampacked Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu say goodbye to Cebuano basketball star Dondon Hontiveros on Saturday night.

However, the team also let Ginebra stretch its already long losing streak.

The Barangay handed the Aces their 14th straight loss overall with a 94-80 win.

Ginebra stifled Alaska in the first half, limiting its opponent to only 31 minutes after 24 minutes and eventually opening a 68-46 lead late in the third quarter.

The Aces still tried to come back, cutting the lead down to nine, 87-78, with 2:01 left, but the Barangay finished the game on a 7-2 run to seal the win.

Justin Brownlee led Ginebra, which now won its fourth straight game, with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds with five assists and three blocks.

Japeth Aguilar also came up with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds with one assist and three blocks.

Greg Slaughter tallied his own double-double of 12 markers and 13 caroms while also blocking two shots.

Scottie Thompson came up with his own double-double of 11 rebounds and 10 assists and even came close to a triple-double with eight points.

Joe Devance made all of his eight shots to finish with 19 points with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Calvin Abueva led Alaska, which is now 0-6 in the ongoing Governors' Cup, with 22 points but he went 9-of-24 from the field. He also had 13 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Hontiveros tallied three points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 23 minutes as a starter for what would be his last game in Cebu as he hinted at retirement after the season.
