MANILA--Yosvany Veitía of Cuba proved to be a tough nut to crack for Dannel Maamo as the 25-year old southpaw scored a unanimous victory over the Philippines' last standing bet at the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Hamburg, Germany.
All five judges had Veitía winning in all rounds, with German judge Holger Kussmaul scoring it 30-24 in favor of the two-time World Champion medalist. The 2012 Olympian advances to the next round of the 52kg category.
The Philippines, meanwhile, prematurely ends its stint in this edition of the tournament as Rogen Ladon lost his first bout earlier this weekend.
