San Beda-A drops five on Perpetual Help; Lyceum shocks UP-A

By Dugout Philippines

MANILA–Day 4 of Ang Liga Season 15 produced the biggest goal-scoring haul to date with Lyceum, UST-A and San Beda-A scoring huge wins in Division 1 play Sunday at the latter’s home turf in Mendiola.

In the curtain-raiser, the Red Lions of head coach Christopher Pedimonte turned up the heat in the second half to dispatch the Perpetual Help Altas, 5-0, earlier in the morning to open their campaign.

A quick three-goal blitz in the opening seven minutes of the second half effectively ended the Altas resistance after coach Francisco Javier De Boer’s men almost took the lead in the 31st minute where they shot their close-ranged effort over the bar.

Mark Anthony Magtoto (46’, 52’) and Jepoy Abada (48’, 71’) both bagged a brace to pace the defending NCAA champions, with Erick Manlapaz adding one in the 69th minute.

Fellow NCAA side Lyceum then caused a massive shock in the league to date, downing UAAP powerhouse UP-A in a three-goal shutout in the afternoon.

The Pirates stole the show in another blitzing second half performance as Paul Dorego put them in front in the 55th minute and Michael Dumalag doubled their lead two minutes later, showing their prowess in their pressing game.

Dumalag then completed his brace in the 70th minute to take all three points.

In the final match of the day, defending Ang Liga champions UST-A bounced back from a highly-charged loss to Ateneo-A on opening day with a 4-0 rout over UE, who are still winless for the second time in as many outings.

With head coach Marjo Allado back in the touchlines, forward Steven Anotado scored early in both halves to get his brace and go up top of the scoring charts in Division 1 along with LPU’s Dumalag.

Anotado pounced on the poor Red Warrior defence as he scored in the 3rd and in the 49th minute for the Growling Tigers.

Jayson Rafol joined him in the scoring spree as he made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute with Kenneth Tuzon’s 79th-minute goal completing the rout for UST.
