QUEZON CITY -- National University have won their 54th straight win, but not before another scare by Ateneo to remain unbeaten in UAAP women's basketball Saturday noon at the Big Dome.
With the 70-53 beating, Patrick Aquino's Lady Bulldogs did not made it past the 20-point barrier for just the second time in Season 80, just six days after blowing out Adamson by 44.
The trio of Jack Danielle Animam, Ria Nabalan and Rhena Itesi are on full attack mode as they scored 15, 12 and 10 respectively.
Ateneo center Tina Deacon scored 10 of her game-high 19 but went cold the rest of the way as the Lady Eagles will surely finish the first round below .500, going down further at 2-4.
NU and Ateneo kept a close contest in the opening quarter but the Lady Bulldogs was just too much in the second quarter where they limit the Lady Eagles to just 5 points.
The reigning three-peat champs led by as much as 24 but Ateneo ignited a mini-rally to reduce to deficit to 11 in the final frame before a 12-6 counter led by Nabalan ended all the hopes.
