MANILA—This time, it was an on-court victory for College
of Saint Benilde against Perpetual Help.
Going full throttle right from the opening tip, the
Blazers hacked out an 83-55 shellacking of the Altas in the second game of the
NCAA Season 93 seniors basketball torunement Friday at the FilOil Flying V
Centre in San Juan City.
The Taft-based school went on a tear early and never
looked back since for the win, which proved to be a vindication after it won
via forfeiture in their first-round encounter.
Anchored by the returning Carlo Young, the Blazers erected a 25-9 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, then padded it up to end the half with a commanding 47-23 cushion.
Edwin Dixon then took charge in the second half as CSB
led by as many as 32 points in the second to take the fight out of the Altas
for good.
Benilde also shackled Perpetual all game long, forcing 29
turnovers translated into 26 points, all while limiting the Las Piñas-localed
ballclub to just 35% from the field (19-of-54).They also led in assists 19-10,
and points in the paint 42-26.
Dixon led the charge for CSB for the second consecutive game with 21 points,
13 in the second half, along with seven rebounds and two steals. Clement Leutcheu
had 14 with 11 boards and three blocks.
Young, back from a one-game suspension, also had 14
markers and three assists, while JJ Domingo issued 11.
The win improved the boys coach TY Tang’s record to 3-9, keeping its slim Final Four hopes alive.
Perpetual did not produce a double-digit scorer, as Keith
Pido registered nine markers, while Jack Hao followed suit with eight. They
slumped to a tie for seventh with Arellano University at 4-7.
Prince Eze was limited to just six markers but still
grabbed 16 rebounds and two blocks.
