FEU dispatches pesky UE to get first win

Ron Dennison poured in 16 to give the season hosts its first win of the season.

QUEZON CITY -- UAAP 80 hosts FEU got their opening win of the season, dispatching a pesky UE 90-83 in the first of the men's basketball doubleheader earlier in the afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum.

With five Tamaraws in double figures, coach Olsen Racela got his first win after the second time of asking to go to .500, led by Ron Dennison who had 16 points, with Prince Orizu backingnhim up with 15.

Coach Olsen got a huge boost from the bench, with Richard Escoto, Barkley Eboña and Arvin Tolentino piched in 11 markers each.

After giving up a Wilson Bartolome three-point play to start the game, FEU responded with a 19-3 run as the Tams ended the opening frame with a 17-point lead, 28-11.

UE then closed in at the second canto, going as near as eight points before FEU saw its lead cut to ten into the break, with Tolentino firing all of his 11 markers in the quarter.

The Tamaraws answered every UE uprising in the second half to recover from their opening day loss to La Salle.
