MANILA—With Meralco needing to win its last two games to take the top seed in the PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals, Chris Newsome showed up this past week.

Newsome fired 28 points while also tallying seven rebounds and five assists as the Bolts turned back the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Friday night.

Two nights later, while giving way to Allen Durham, Newsome still made his presence felt, getting 14 markers, four rebounds, and six assists as Meralco stormed back from 18 points down to shock San Miguel.

Newsome's superb performances earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award as announced on Monday.

The six-foot-two winger beat Star's Mark Barroca and PJ Simon and Rain or Shine's Raymond Almazan, Maverick Ahanmisi, and Don Trollano for the weekly citation.

The Bolts will take on the eighth-seeded Blackwater Elite in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night, where the Bolts only need to beat the Elite once to move on to the best-of-five semifinals.
