Ilocos finally scores win, stuns Marikina

BIÑAN--Ilocos pulled a huge stunner in the PFL, subduing JPV Marikina, 2-1 its very first win of the season at the Biñan Football Stadium on Saturday night.

Kennedy Uzoka scored the breakthrough goal late into the match to give the Northern Luzon side its first full three points while spoiling the Metro Manila club's chance to reenter the Top 4.

Alen Angeles started the scoring as he slotted in a 10th minute goal to put Marikina up.

Angelo Marasigan, however, equalized with a 32nd minute strike.

Ilocos' game-winner happened in the 82nd minute as Uzoka blitzed past the Marikina defense and blasted the ball past Nelson Gasic.

Ilocos is now within a point of Davao, which plays Manila later Saturday, for seventh place.

Marikina, on the other hand, remains stuck at 27 points stays in fifth place as Laguna, which lent its turf to Marikina for the match with the Marikina Sports Park reserved for the Milo Little Olympics, suffered a bad beat at Makati.

Makati 4 Laguna 0

In Makati, Makati solidified its hold of second place with a 4-0 rout of Laguna.

A second half was all Makati needed to maul Laguna as Jordan Mintah zoomed past Jhan-Jhan Melliza in the Golden Boot race.

Mintah put Makati on the board with a goal at the hour mark.

Miguel Tanton then introduced his return to the club with a 62nd minute goal.

Mintah scored again in the 66th minute, his 14th goal of the season that is enough to overtake Melliza, who was scoreless, in the goal-scoring race.

Eric Giganto sealed the win in the 86th minute.

Makati is now four points clear of Cebu for second place and is within three points of Manila for the top spot.

Laguna remained sixth with 26 points.
