BALER—JC Angeles ruled the Free the Sea Movement surfing competition at the Nalu Surf Camp along Sabang Beach on Saturday.

Angeles braved the strong waves of the Pacific Ocean to impress the judges enough to give him the win in the advanced division of the eighth edition of the annual tournament among rookie surfers.

Angeles got an average of 7.2 points, just 0.4 point ahead of second placer Marcus Woelfel of Germany.

JP Carlos came in third with an average of 5.7 points among the three jurors.

Angeles walked away with a brand new bag, while Woelfel and Carlos each took home caps.

In the novice division, Shan Alejos dominated the field with an average score of 8.8 points from three judges.

For the win, Alejos won for herself a brand new surfboard courtesy of Reef, the organizer of the said event.

Mikaela Alde came in second with 6.9 points, while Darwin Cayetano took the third spot with 6.5 points.

The said tournament was part of a two-day surfing event that included a free surfing clinic and a coastal cleanup along the said beach.
