PASAY -- La Salle finally won their first game in the UAAP women's basketball tournament after four tries, keeping UP winless with a comprehensive 76-64 triumph at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday morning.

Pocholo Villanueva's Lady Archers were on target in the second quarter, limiting the Lady Maroons to just 12 points while doubling UP's production in the same period to get into the winning column at last this season.

Guard Charmaine Torres fired 17 points to lead La Salle, with Marga Dagdagan backing up
with 16 off the bench, 11 of which came in their second quarter breakaway.

Daphne Esplana scored a game high 19 markers but it was not enough to prevent their drop to 0-4.

After falling behind by 8 to start, La Salle scored eleven unanswered points to grab the lead after the first.

And then on, it was all La Salle as they ballooned their lead to as much as 20 before settling for a 15-point halftime lead.

UP came with guns blazing at the third, inching in to within a bucket with 5:24 to go, but the Lady Archers were able to fend off the challenge to remain ahead by 9.

Although the Lady Maroons have pulled to within 6 with a minute to go, La Salle have racked up six straight points to formally get their first win.
