MANILA—San Beda kept in step with
undefeated Lyceum as it powered past San Sebastian, 76-65, to cap off Friday festivities
of the NCAA Season 93 seniors basketball at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San
Juan City.
Back with a complete roster, the
defending champs put on the clamps on a gritty Baste squad to stay in second
place with an 11-1 card, just a game behind the 12-0 Pirates.
Javee Mocon topscored for the boys of
Mendiola with 17 points and 11 rebounds with five assists and two steals.
Davon Potts backstopped Mocon with his
16 points spiked on three triples and three boards.
Robert Bolick, who just came back from
a one-match ban along with coach Boyet Fernandez and Clint Doliguez, fired 11
markers.
The match, however, was tainted in
controversy after Stags star Michael Calissan was issued a disqualifying foul
after elbowing Mocon in a rebounds play, 3:33 left in the second quarter.
But after a review, the foul was
downgraded as an unsportsmanlike foul, sparking huge disbelief from the San
Beda bench. As per league rule, a disqualifying foul means a one-game absence for the guilty party.
Donald Tankoua and Jomari Presbitero
both scored eight points for San Beda, who had a plus-20 advantage in
rebounding (45-25).
Jeramer Cabanag also had a brilliant
game for SBC, cashing all his six points in the payoff period.
Calisaan paced the Stags, now dropping
to a tie for fourth to fifth at 5-6, with 23 points and three blocks. Allyn Bulanadi added 12 while
Alfren Gayosa was the third double-digit scorer with 10.
