MANILA--With the quarterfinal cast in the PBA Governors' Cup now known after Blackwater's clinching win against GlobalPort on Sunday night, all eyes will be on which teams will end up in the Top 4, which will give them a twice-to-beat advantage in the next round.
Two of those teams will see action on Wednesday night as Rain Or Shine and San Miguel take on already eliminated squads at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The Elasto Painters lock horns with the Alaska Aces at 4:15 p.m., while the Beermen battle the Phoenix Fuel Masters at 7 p.m.
Among both quarterfinalists, only SMB has an outright chance of making the Top 4 as the team needs to win its remaining two matches, the Phoenix game and a showdown against Meralco on Sunday night, to lock in the incentive.
On the other hand, ROS can still make the Top 4, but with its remaining match after Wednesday night, assuming it gets the win, being a Saturday game against Blackwater, which is already out of Top 4 contention, the team can only hope for favorable results from the remaining games pitting teams also vying for the twice-to-beat edges, the TNT-Ginebra game also on Saturday and the Sunday night twinbill featuring the Meralco-SMB clash and the first game between Star and NLEX. ROS and Star can only enter the Top 4 through the quotients.
Meanwhile, Phoenix and Alaska look to end their respective seasons on a high note, but all eyes will be on what could be Dondon Hontiveros' farewell game in Alaska's match against ROS.
