MANILA--All eyes are on the women’s volleyball in UAAP and NCAA, but not all fantastic players came from those leagues.

There is a probinsyana who is making her name little by little, and she goes by the name Jonah Sabete.

Coming from her home province of Negros Occidental, she pursued her education at San Pedro High School in Hagonoy, Bulacan where she draw her path to success.

“Kahit ako lang nagpapa-aral sa sarili ko lahat kinakaya ko kasi nga may pangarap ako,” Sabete stated.

Back in her elementary days in Negros Occidental, Sabete was once a marathon player, and she was just asked by her coach to try volleyball.

Because of her potential and dedication, she turned out to be one of her school volleyball star.

As for her volleyball career in Bulacan, the 22-year-old volleybelle also became one of the mainstay of the Bulacan team in the CLRAA, despite her 5-foot-6 height, she can jump over the blockers and score with a bang.

After graduating high school, she continued her career in BulSU Gold Gears volleyball team and won many individual awards like being a member of the 2014 BCAA Mythical Six, 2015 BCAA MVP and Athlete of the Year, 2016 BCAA Athlete of the Year and UCLAA Mythical Six member.

The precious Gold Gear is now banging bodies with the elite volleybelles in Philippine Super Liga, bannering her club team Sta Lucia.

“Unang–una sa lahat, maraming salamat sa mga taong tumulong sa akin lalo na kay Coach Bange, Sir Jessie at Sir Teng, and sports director ng BulSU. Sana marami pa kayong matulungan. Hulog kayo ng langit sa akin. Sa lahat ng nag-idolize sa akin, thank you po,” said Sabete.

The BulSU phenom never stops dreaming as she also wants to play in the RP team alongside Alyssa Valdez.
