Angeles caught fire in the second as UST tears Ateneo apart

Hot handed Jem Angeles scored 15 in the second period to lead the way for UST.

PASAY CITY -- In an all-around performance, UST boosted its chance to land second in the UAAP Women's Basketball tourney after clawing Ateneo apart 67-50 Wednesday noon at the MOA Arena.

Jem Angeles caught fire in the second period, firing 15 out of her team-high 22 points to lead the way for Haydee Ong's Growling Tigresses, bouncing back from their close loss to UE with a resounding rout of the Lady Eagles to moved up to 9-2.

Forward Sai Larosa backstopped the hot shooting guard with a double-double of 15 markers and 13 boards to secure their second consecutive postseason appearance.

Ateneo center Tina Deacon fired 12 points for the Lady Eagles who fell to 3-7.

UST broke away in the middle periods, leading by as much as 25 courtesy of a pair of 8-0 runs to fend off Ateneo.
