SAN JUAN—Far Eastern U added to the
misery of University of Santo Tomas, sending the Tigers to its ninth straight setback of UAAP Season 80 with a 96-70 thumping in Sunday first game of men’s
seniors’ hoops action at the FilOil-Flying V Centre.
Leading right from the opening tip, the
Morayta squad thus snapped its two-game losing skid and improved to a 5-4 win-loss record,
all while giving the undermanned UST team its 13th consecutive loss
dating back to last season.
The Tamaraws stormed to a 7-0 lead
early on behind Jasper Parker and Ron Dennison, then turned to its balanced scoring
all throughout for a 36-point bubble, 66-30, on an Axel Iñigo lay-up and never
wavered since.
Kenneth Tuffin led the Tams with 14
points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Arvin Tolentino added 13 with five boards and three
steals, while Parker and Dennsion chipped in a combined 19-point output.
In all, FEU got 62 points from its second stringers, including 27 in the first half. UST only got 22 bench points.
UST, who played minus starters Steve
Akomo and Jordan Sta. Ana due to health issues, got 17 points apiece from
Wendell De Guzman and Jeepy Faundo. It is the España-based squad’s worst start
in the Final 4 era.
