UE forces, then brushed aside FEU in overtime thriller

PASAY CITY -- University of the East clawed their way back and prevailed over FEU in extras for a 63-61 win in the UAAP women's basketball tilt Saturday morning at the Mall of Asia Arena.

After a see-saw contest which imitated their first round encounter, the Lady Warriors of Aileen Libornio finally won an overtime game for the second time of asking to level with idle UST at second with an identical 9-2 card.

"Sa lahat ng games namin, eto ang pinakaworst," Libornio summarized the wild game in which they had turned the ball over 26 times, 18 of them came in the first 20 minutes.

Lovejoy Sto. Domingo had made another statement game with a double-20 performance, scoring 26 points and collard 23 rebounds for the season sweep against the Lady Tamaraws.

Backstopping the combo guard were Ruthlaine Tacula who scored 13, and Eunique Chan who had a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.

But it was Alyssa Gayacao who became the heroine for the formerly-named Amazons as she fired the undergoal stab with two ticks left in regulation to force overtime.

UE and FEU had at each other's necks in a virtual catfight, with the lead switch hands twelve times and were on equal terms on five occasions

The Lady Tams led by as much as eight in the third quarter but crumbled in the endgame to fall at 5-6.

Valerie Mamaril's 16 points went down the drain for Bert Flores.
