PASAY—Women's Candidate Master Kylen Mordido headlines the champions of the 25th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships after the holding of the national finals at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall over the weekend.

Mordido, with a current ELO rating of 1802, went unbeaten in her nine matches and got eight points on seven wins and two draws, which was enough to beat FIDE Master Stephen Pangilinan and Julius Gonzales, which each got 6.5 points, in the juniors division.

Pangilinan took second place on tiebreaker points, while Gonzales settled for third.

David Ancheta also went unbeaten with seven wins and two draws for eight points to rule the kiddie division.

Ancheta prevailed over Mark Bacojo and Michael Concio, who both got seven points. Bacojo got the silver after having the better tiebreaker points than Concio.

Meanwhile, Jeth Morado won the seniors division in a close race to the top between him, Jethro Esplanada, and Ahmad Azote.

Morado, Esplanada, and Azote all finished with seven points after nine rounds, but Morado edged Esplanada by just 0.5 tiebreaker point to win it all.

Esplanada got second place after holding a 0.5 tiebreaker point lead over Azote, who settled for third place.
