63-0 | National U on the cusp of 4-peat after tearing down UE in finals opener

QUEZON CITY -- Reigning UAAP queens National U taught University of the East a masterclass on championship games, as they moved to within a win of a fourth consecutive sweep with an 89-61 beating in Game 1 of the Women's Finals Wednesday afternoon at the Big Dome.

The Lady Bulldogs of head coach Patrick Aquino pounced on the slow start of the Lady Warriors right the opening tip, as the used multiple double-digit scoring runs to extend their winning run to 63 games.

Trixie Antiquiera produced another shooting masterpiece as she fired her second 30-point game on the strength of seven triples to lead, with Ria Nabalan backing her up with 16.

Newly crowned MVP Jack Danielle Animam scored a measly 10 but she made it up with a double-double after grabbing 17 boards.

The suspension of Anna Requiron and co. hurt UE in more ways than one, as they were limited to use just eight players, with All-UAAP team member Lovejoy Sto. Domingo paced the Lady Warriors with a double-double of 17 markers and 12 rebounds.

NU broke away from the lone deadlock of the game for good with a 14-0 run and led by as much as 36 in the payoff period, 76-40, courtesy of Monique Del Carmen's free throws.
