SAN JUAN—Foton
just keeps on winning.
Iriga City,meanwhile,
may have wished Grethcel Soltones was
around.
Two-time
defending champs Tornadoes wasted no time in disposing the Oragons in straight sets,
25-10, 25-23, 25-19, in the resumption of action
of the 2017 Chooks-To-Go Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V
Centre Tuesday, November 7.
With Serb Sara Klisura and skipper Jaja Santiago
joining forces anew, the Tornadoes went smoking right out of the gates while
its menacing net defense frustrated Iriga City as it notched its fourth
straight triumph and solo leadership in the standings.
The 6-foot-3 reinforcement continued her brilliant
form, leading the charge with 12 points on 10 attacks, while Santiago added 11 for
the Tornadoes.
The Foton local crew also stepped up, as setter Ivy
Perez fired eight points and 18 excellent sets, Mika Ortiz added seven and CJ
Rosario six. Import Dragana Perunicic cashed in four markers.
Despite a slight advantage in attacks 35-32, the
Moro Branislav-mentored side picked up in the service aces department (11-5)
and in blocks (7-0).
“I'm very happy these local players finish serious, serious
plays, serious finish. Maybe two to three mistakes, but it's okay,” the Serbian tactician
Branislav said.
The Oragons
will miss the services of Soltones after the PSL slapped the former NCAA MVP
with a one-year suspension and a P50,000 fine for violations of league rules.
Tamara
Kmezic paced Iriga City with a game-best 17 points spiked on 15 attacks and two
service aces, even as Japanese Saam Miyagawa registered 11. They have now
ropped to an even 1-1 card.
