TAGUIG--The RP Blu Girls captured the silver medal in the Asian Women's Softball Championship in Taichung, Taiwan after shocking China and host team Chinese Taipei in the playoffs.
The Blu Girls first stunned the Taiwanese squad, 5-3, in the quarterfinals before rallying back to upset the Chinese team, 4-3, in the semis.
The Blu Girls' dream run ended with a 0-7 loss to Japan in the final, but the runner-up finish was still enough for the Blu Girls to clinch a spot in the Asian Games and the World Softball Championship next year.
“I’m so elated with RP Blu Girls’ performance in the Asian Women’s Softball Championships. Their wins against world number 6 China and World number 9 Chinese Taipei, in a span of a few hours, prove that their wins these summer against powerhouse teams such as world number 3 Canada, number 4 Australia were no flukes. I’m so excited about this team and I think they have a legitimate chance of being one of only 6 teams who’ll play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
