MANILA--With Calvin Abueva and Carl Cruz called up to Gilas for the second window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and Chris Banchero in injury bay, Alaska needed a spark plug in its all-important game against Rain Or Shine.

Jvee Casio rose to the occasion.

Casio delivered an outstanding performance, tallying a triple-double, his first ever as a pro, as Alaska scored a huge 99-95 win over ROS to assure a Top 6 finish in the elimination round of the PBA Philippine Cup, which means the team will not go through a twice-to-beat disadvantage in the quarterfinals.

Casio, who finished with 22 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, was named the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week on Monday.

Casio prevailed over fellow Ace Marion Magat, GlobalPort Batang Pier's Kelly Nabong, Blackwater Elite's Poy Erram, San Miguel Beermen Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter, and Magnolia Hotshot Paul Lee.

Based on a computation of quotients made by Dugout Philippines, Alaska will finish no worse than fourth place, but the team can move up to as high as third depending on the results of the last two playdates of the preliminaries, basically meaning that the club is awaiting its opponent in its best-of-three quarterfinal series.
