MANILA--Senator Sonny Angara expressed dismay about a revelation that some national athletes are still not enjoying financial support and even forced to train and compete using their own money.
"It's a shame," Angara told some reporters on Monday when he attended a basketball camp for the benefit of his youth advocacy at the Chiang Kai Shek Gym on Monday.
A notable report recently bared that table tennis Paralympian Josephine Medina is training for various international competitions including the World Para Table Tennis Championship in Slovenia on her own, physically and financially.
"If a national athlete is part of the national pool, I think the government should pay for that," continued Angara, the vice chairman of the Senate sports committee.
