PASAY--Just when everyone thought there will be a rubber match on Thursday night, Magnolia rose from the bottom.

The Hotshots rallied from an early 20-point deficit to oust the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 86-79, in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday night.

Behind the hot hands of Stanley Pringle, GlobalPort raced to a 26-6 lead late in the first quarter.

Magnolia, however, slowly chipped away the lead and finally taking control of the game by the third quarter, even stretching the edge to 12 by the fourth period.

The Batang Pier still tried to claw back with a 9-2 run that drew them to within four, 78-82, with 1:10 remaining, but that turned to be their last hurrah.

Mark Barroca led Magnolia, which only needed a win to join San Miguel in the semis, with 17 points, two rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block off the bench.

Paul Lee went 7-for-7 from the free throw line and finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds with a single assist.

Pringle finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and one block, but he also had six turnovers as GlobalPort exits from the tournament despite a promising start.
