QUEZON CITY--Every time a PBA finals series ensues, the fans always keep a keen eye on the referees as a simple officiating error can change the complexion of the entire series.

Commissioner Willie Marcial, however, assured both San Miguel, Magnolia, and their fans that the quality of the officiating in the best-of-seven series starting on Friday will be at a maximum as he will only deploy the referees who will be of best fit.

Marcial actually revealed during the press conference of the said series at the Sambokojin Restaurant on Wednesday that the filtering of the referees who will officiate the crucial games has been a thing since the quarterfinals.

"Noong eliminations, ang referees namin, 18. Pagdating sa quarterfinals, naging 12 na lang. Pagdating ng semifinals, 10," said Marcial.

He then bared that there is a possibility that the pool of referees could be trimmed down further for the championship round as well as a probability of keeping the semifinal pool for the said series.

"Tinitignan na lang namin yung walo o 10 na pinakamagagaling na referees namin," Marcial continued. "Gine-grade namin yun eh, so yung pinakamatataas na grade, yun ang isasabak namin sa finals para walang masabi itong dalawang teams na ito, lalo na ang mga coaches."
